A Southern Odyssey

A Southern Odyssey

Embarking on a cross-country road trip is not just a journey; it's an adventure filled with diverse landscapes, vibrant cultures, and culinary delights. My recent road trip from California to Georgia was a testament to the beauty that lies along the highways of America. Buckle up as I take you through the highlights of my unforgettable journey.

Las Vegas: A Triennial Tradition

As the glitzy lights of the Las Vegas strip welcomed attendees for the third consecutive year, I found myself once again immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the Wedding MBA conference. Having attended in 2019 and 2021, the 2023 edition promised not only to be a celebration of love but a testament to the growth, connections, and unforgettable experiences that this annual gathering brings.

First Year on the Bus

Ever since the pandemic hit, I had been dreaming of a life on the road. Well really, long before that if you read back through my series of Comparing Richmond blogs in 2013. So when the lockdowns forced everyone inside for the unforeseeable future, I started looking at RVs. After realizing that I couldn’t get financing, I started looking into this thing called Skoolies. For those of you that don’t know, a Skoolie is essentially a school bus converted into a mobile home. In January 2021, I started doing my research on what it would take to make it happen. When I had enough information to make an informed purchase, I got on Facebook Marketplace.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Many of you had travel plans in 2020 that had to be cancelled. As we #testnegative and #staypositive we have used those accrued flight credits to travel and get the inside scoop on great experiences that you too can enjoy safely and confidently.

We started this trip wanting to make the most of it while still being cost conscious. In the last post, you'll see we used 2020 flight credits to get to Puerto Rico practically free. Next step was lodging, and we found this perfectly located hostel with an amazing rooftop ocean view, clean & comfortable private rooms, and great staff & guests.

Sandals Ochi, Jamaica

So I found a steal trip to Jamaica at the all-inclusive Sandals resort. It was $1,500 for 3 nights. Just the getaway I needed after a very cold winter in Virginia (and another round of shutdowns for the wedding industry).

As soon as we got off the plane in Montego Bay, we were greeted with champagne at the Sandals lounge. Then we took a 45 min van ride to the resort in Ocho Rios, where we were again greeted with champagne. Then we were introduced to our butlers, Patrick and Tevin, and we really can’t say enough about them.
